North Kinsman – White Mountains, NH
Elevation – 4,293 feet
To get to the summit of South Kinsman we did a nice loop that also incorporated Cannon Mtn and South Kinsman summit. The whole loop was 11.5 miles long and took us about 10.5hours. We Parked at the Lafayette Campground parking lot and hiked up the lonesome lake trail going toward the kinsmen ridge trail. There are a lot of trail intersections in the first couple miles so just make sure to follow the signs that say “Cannon Mtn summit”.
We started our hike at 8am and reached Cannon Mountain summit around 10:30am. The clouds we too thick for us to see anything from Cannon but had it been a clear day you would be able to see 360 views from the viewing tower. We then took the kinsmen ridge trail over to North Kinsmen. By the time we hit North Kinsman the clouds started rolling out and we finally got some nice views. By 1pm we hit North Kinsman and by 2pm we hit South Kinsman. South Kinsman had some pretty awesome 360 views and made for a great last peak before heading down.
We hiked back down to the Kinsman Pond Shelter then took The Fishing Jimmy Trail to the lonesome lake trail and back down to the parking lot. Although it was a very long hike it was definitely doable in a day. We didn’t feel rushed and were at the car before 7pm.
